Post Micah Parsons trade and for the 2025 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys had the worst defense by statistical measures in terms of yards allowed, Pass yards allowed, TDS given up, and so much more that I don't care to mention. Not to mention that the Cowboys posted the 4th worst defensive rating in NFL history! In 2026, they had one goal for the off-season and draft: Defense

It got off to an overall shaky start, many people thought the Cowboys would be more aggressive towards big name prospects, like Crosby, Dean, or Carter , but like always, Jones held the money close to his vest. Signing developmental players like Jalen Thompson and PJ Locke as scheme fits for the young Christian Parker. The additions of veteran presence on the line with Rashan Gary and Dee Winters. As per usual, the Cowboys splashed in the NFL draft.

The Cowboys had the 12th pick which they turned into the 11th pick to acquire standout safety from Ohio State: Caleb Downs.

Alongside the acquisition of Malachi Lawrence with the other first round pick that was acquired from the Parsons trade and 3rd + 4th round draft picks to further bolster scheme fits for Christian Parker. Then, came the OTA's. Which saw a Christian Parker defense make Ceedee Lamb, a top receiver in the NFL, admit that he was troubled by what he saw with the product Christian Parker put in front of him.

Here's the dilemma, if we flashback to a year ago to this day, the Dallas Cowboys might be in a trickier spot defensively this year than they were last year. They are relying on the brilliance of a new scheme and system which depends on young players taking leaps and bounds in their first or second year. Sure, they still have some veteran presence with Quinnen Williams and Dee Winters, but on the backend, they are relatively young. Many Fans have optimism for this upcoming season, but should be aware of possible hiccups in the road.
