Cowboys Hire Christian Parker

The Cowboys sign Christian Parker, secondary and pass game coach out of there rivals Philadelphia Eagles. One of the names that I mentioned in my article about potential hires at the position, so what does this mean for the defense?

Well, it means a couple of things. Like one, he's an incredible secondary coach. The work he did with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean and to make both of them the players that they are were impressive. Adoree Jackson was much better than at the end of the season than the beginning. Even though the secondary group wasn't exactly perfect, it was really good, and that's something that the Cowboys need over here. The secondary group last year was horrid. Revel, Bland, and Carson heavily struggled mechanically and excecutionally, and with the addition of Parker, it should help out the DB room and turn it into something better.

Additionally, Parker was a study under Vic Fangio, one of the better defensive coordinators in the NFL. Fangio and his defense stumped a lot of prolific offenses. Even the Cowboys offense had some troubles against this defense, albeit they overcame it. Jordan Love, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff, all notable quarterbacks who struggled against this defense and this secondary. More than likely, Parker will come over and implement something similar to what Fangio ran, so expect a ton of disguises, pressure up the middle, and cover 2 and 3. All staples of a Fangio-led defense.

Just because Parker came over from Philly doesn't automatically catapult this team to the forefront of their division/ conference. They still need to make moves in free agency regarding either the secondary or defensive line depending on what they choose to do in the draft. Either way, they aren't at the finish line, but they did make a good step in the right direction with the hire of Christian Parker.
