Cowboys Offseason priorities

The Dallas Cowboys are entering a off-season that has them trending in the right direction. After a season that saw their offense take a huge leap from last year, but their defense look like a hot pile of trash. The Cowboys have a lot to prioritize so that this team can finally make themselves look like a serious contender instead of a team being boosted by their high-end talent.

  1. Have to find the defensive coordinator for this team. Unless something drastic happens the defense for the Cowboys won't have a massive talent upgrade from last year. It's obvious this team needs serious upgrades at the linebacker and safety position, all of which could be solved in the draft/offseason, but without the right guy at the helm, they are incredibly cooked. Dallas is already looking at guys that gave their own QB, Dak Prescott, who had an incredible year, trouble. Guys like Jim Leonhard: pass game coordinator for the Broncos, Kevin Parker: the pass game coordinator for the Eagles, Deronte Jones: Pass game coordinator for the Vikings. All of which could help this defense out tremendously. As we've learned from the post-season, defenses are what truly wins championships, it does not matter how the offense plays if the defense cannot get a damn stop.

  2. The Cowboys need to make serious moves on the defensive side of the ball and figure out their tackle problem. The defensive side of the ball was atrocious last year. While Eberflus had his fair share of problems in the playcalling, there were times where he put guys in position to make plays, and those plays were not made. Kenneth Murray might have been the worst signing since Greg Hardy, Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson are actually terriorists at this point. Shavon Revel and Daron Bland go whooped so bad I thought slavery was still in effect sometimes. We learned this year that it doesn't matter how good the offense plays if the defense isn't able to support it. Just because the offense can move up and down the field at will doesn't mean we will beat every team we see.

Now, Dallas is not by any means close to a championship at this point. But they can be of they have a good off-season and a good draft. The talent exists on both sides of the football, but the Cowboys were doomed because they couldn't get the fundamentals right. Take the steps in the right direction, and see the results.
