Cowboys Training Camp Padded Day 4

Little late with this one, but I am noting everything from the Dallas Cowboys training camp on day 4 of their padded sessions. A lot of offensive notes to note from this session.

1. Brevyn Spann-Ford had a breakout day at TE2

Undrafted tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford easily had his best practice of camp so far. Everyone knows he can block—he pulled around left guard Tyler Smith to crush a block and open up a massive lane for Javonte Williams—but today he proved he’s got hands, too. He made a couple of crisp grabs over the middle, which is huge for his chances of locking down that backup tight end spot behind Jake Ferguson.

2. Otito Ogbonnia is making noise on the D-line

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer singled out DT Otito Ogbonnia as the standout player of the day, and for good reason. Ogbonnia blew up a first-team run play behind the line and lined up all over the front. He's looking like a guaranteed lock to rotate in next to Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark.

3. CB Shavon Revel Jr. vs. George Pickens

Shavon Revel Jr. showed off his crazy potential today by sticking step-for-step with George Pickens on a deep go-route. The physical traits are clearly there, but he was just a second too late getting his head around to track the ball. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker mentioned recently that Revel needs to "finish plays," which is why guys like Daron Bland and Cobie Durant still hold the edge for the starting outside corner spots right now.

4. Dak to MVS for the big play

The highlight of the day for the offense came when Dak Prescott felt the pressure, rolled out smoothly to his right, and hit Marquez Valdes-Scantling wide open downfield for a massive gain.

Extra Camp Notes

• A Scuffle Broke Out: Things got heated during the third padded practice of camp. Cornerback Caelen Carson and rookie wide receiver Anthony Smith got into a skirmish after a play. It was mostly facemask-grabbing and helmet-tugging before teammates jumped in to separate them, but it definitely injected some extra energy into practice.  

• More on Brevyn Spann-Ford’s Big Play: On that highlighted catch over the middle, Spann-Ford made a spectacular diving grab in coverage right over safety Markquese Bell. Later in team drills, his monster block that cleared the lane was delivered directly on linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.  

• Coaching & Injury Updates: Head coach Brian Schottenheimer addressed the media prior to practice to provide injury updates on the roster, keeping a close eye on workload management as the team ramps up contact intensity leading into preseason action.
