The Cowboys take down the Kansas City Chiefs in an important thanksgiving matchup to propel them to 6-5-1 and following the Eagles loss, only sit 1.5 games behind the Eagles. They make a serious case for the division and help their playoff chances while defeating a quality opponent in Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Let's see how they were able to do so.
Defeating the defensive scheme from the Chiefs and Spags's playcalling. Spags is known for confusing QBS better than Prescott. It was a key matchup, especially considering historically Dak hasn't been good against a Spags scheme. Today he was amzing against it. Aside from his interception, which was probably the only win for Spags on the day, Prescott went 10-11 110 yards and 2 TD against blitzes. Mind you, Daniel Jones who's been on fire this year and qbs like Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson also struggled against this Chiefs defense. The Cowboys needed their leaders to step up today and they did. CeeDee Lamb had a bounce back game from the Eagles and put on a show. 7 Catches for 110 Yards and a TD and drawing 2 PI penalties. George Pickens tallied 88 yards and a sick catch and run featuring a hurdle. Ferguson was a good security blanket and made a great catch for a TD that was unfortunately called back. As a whole, this passing offense was humming, and the Offensive line let up no sacks.
Defensively, they held up. There was absolutely no reason one of the worst rushing attacks in football should've had 110 yards on this defensive front, but I can excuse it as the Cowboys d-line made a ton of pressures on Mahomes. You aren't going to shut him down let's face it, so making it difficult for the Chiefs Offense and providing yours with oppurtunities is all we ask for. The Cowboys did just that, holding the Chiefs to 0 points through 2 quarters and making key stops all across the game. This is an improved defense, still not a good one but an improved one nonetheless. The secondary is still an issue. With injuries to Bland and Revel, minor ones of course, they will need to ask their young guys to step up in the coming weeks, especially considering they have Jamison Williams to guard next week.
Overall, the Cowboys won this game as a unit. Both sides of the football did their job, with some issues of course. The Cowboys should feel proud of this week. Defeating the Eagles and Chiefs in a 4-game span is no minor feat. But they still have some work to do, starting with the Detroit Lions.
