Cowboys vs Eagles Post-game

The Dallas Cowboys take down the Philadelphia Eagles in an insane thriller. Featuring a 21 point comeback, multiple deep shots by Ceedee and George Pickens. It was a classic to see these teams face off and the Cowboys get a much needed win vs the Eagles. Let's recap how the Cowboys were able to pull this off.

  1. They emphasized their running game and made it a priority. Too many times when the Cowboys go down in these big games they tend to put it all on Dak Prescott to figure out and abandon the run game. This time around they kept trying to establish it even though they were down the entire game. Javonte Williams averaged 4 yards per carry and as a whole, the offensive line played an extrodinary game. This defensive line unit is one of the best in the game and the Cowboys negated Jalen Carter and this unit in general for most of the game. There were some offensive line penalties and missed penalties, but sometimes that's just part of the game. It was refreshing to see this team and coaching staff not panic down 21 and continue to run a balanced offense even though they were down big.

  2. The defense played their best game all year. Statistically they didn't, but they made some huge plays for this team and was a driving force in this comeback. In the first half it was more of the same we've seen all year. No pressure, can't stop the pass, and getting torched in general. After the Eagles's last offensive touchdown which came with 11 minutes to go in the second quarter, the Eagles never scored again. That's an impressive feat for one of the worst defensive units in this league. To hold that offense to 0 points in the second half, force key turnovers to give your offense a chance, and to shutdown Saquon Barkley and this run game? That's something that will not go unnoticed.

  3. Matt Eberflus outcoaching Sirianni and Patullo is something that I would've never expected to say this season. It is safe to say that Eberflus has lost the Cowboys games this year. But he was a big reason this defense played the way that it did in the second half. The biggest thing that the Cowboys have struggles with this year is second half adjustments, especially on the defensive end. Well I have zero idea what he ate for breakfast or what he said to the defense at half time, but he needs to do that every single game from here on now. His playcalling in that second half might've been the best half he's called all year. The players made some impressive plays and the Eagles did shoot themselves in the foot with about 400 penalties, but Eberflus stepped up in a major way. Something that again, I probably would've never imagined to say after the beginning of this year.

  4. One last thing I want to add before we finish up, the situational playcalling and decision-making from Schotty and Dak has to change. 4th and 3 from the 50 on the first series does not call for you to go for it and if you are going to, call something that is creative and beats man coverage. Don't call 4 verticals this isn't madden. The Cowboys recovered a fumble from inside the ten yard line. On the ensuing play, Williams got 7 yards with 8 yards to go to the endzone. The Cowboys had 3 tries to get one yard and didn't run once. That makes zero sense and is complete malpractice from both the Coach and the Qb. More so on Schotty, but Dak sees the things and real time, he's got to call an audible to a run which makes more sense in that situation.

All in all, the Cowboys completed an impressive comeback to top the Eagles who drop to 8-3 while the Boys move up to a 5-5-1 record. Winning the division is out the window at this point, especially considering the schedule the Eagles have up ahead and what Dallas has to go through, but the Cowboys might be able to sneak into a wildcard spot if they win out and get some things to go for them.
