Double Standard

Bit of a pivot from the normal Dallas content, but with the playoffs going on right now, I feel it is pretty important to speak on this topic.

Following the Bills heartbraking playoff loss to the Broncos, in a game where Allen played well but had a couple of key turnovers that made the difference, a debate has hit the media about how we look at quarterbacks based off of something else if you get what I'm trying to say.

For years, the media has trashed quarterbacks like Prescott, Lamar, even SB winning Jalen Hurts isn't immune from criticism. Analysts like Stephen A Smith, although his viewpoint is more towards his hatred for the Cowboys, Dan Orvlosky, Peter Schrager, Shady McCoy, Emmanuel Acho have picked apart these individual quarterback's playoff misdeeds and their failures in big games. But routinely, whenever quarterbacks like Stafford, Maye, Allen, or Herbert struggles in big moments or makes key mistakes in moments such as the playoff game mentioned above, it seems like the tone is different. As in, a ton of excuses are made for them, while the three mentioned at the top seem to be blamed for anything even if it's out of their control.

Allen had 4 turnovers in the game, this is what Dan Orvlosky had to say about it: https://x.com/i/status/2013266944279908562

I'm not the guy to bring up race into anything, and this isn't a trend that favors one side and not the other. For years, Ryan Clark has tried to push an agenda that there is a clear appearance of racism in the league, which there is. He went out and pulled out all of the stops to defend CJ Stroud after his abysmal performance vs the Patriots. But it does seem like for many analysts, the tune changes when we talk about "White" QBS as opposed when we talk about " Black " QBS. It feels like there is a clear double standard in the league, one that has been here since the dawn of the NFL.

The truth is, it should never matter what the QBS look like, where they are, what type of person that they are. When a QB plays bad, we should call it like it is. If a QB makes a play where it's not the right one or it costs them the game, it should be talked about in the same manner as it would be for the worst QB in the game. Allen and Herbert, no matter the circumstance or the surroundings didn't play their best. Herbert has one of the worst o-line's in the league, but missed a couple of key passes that would have put the Chargers in a better spot. None of it was talked about the following day. He didn't play the best he could have, and all the blame was shifted elsewhere. However, after Lamar's loss vs the Steelers, a game that had him over 200 passing yards in the 4th quarter alone, after he drove the Ravens down to the 24 yard line and his kicker missed a easy FG, there were people online and in the media blaming him. The double standard in this league needs to end, and it needs to end right now.
