George Pickens

In one of my first ever blogs that I wrote, I talked about how Pickens would potentially be a devastating move for the Cowboys. At the time, I viewed him as someone who didn't give a 100% on his routes, stirred up trouble in the locker room, at times had inconsistient hands, and also had the ability to wreck the game for the Steelers. Because of this, I openly said this move was going to be to the detriment of the Cowboys. I am very happy and proud to admit I was horribly and horrendously wrong. Pickens has been nothing short of amazing for the Cowboys. For the first time since Dak's couple of games in 2020 and 2021, Prescott has a reliable and an amazing WR2 to work with. He's been so good to the point the Cowboys should consider getting him more targets even with Lamb in the Lineup. Let's look over how George Pickens has looked for the Dallas Cowboys and what he has done for Dak Prescott.

Key Stats & Milestones

🎯 Performance Highlights & Context

  • He made an immediate impact after joining Dallas, far quicker than many expected. Yardbarker+1

  • His yards-per-catch (~16.9) shows he’s being used not only in intermediate routes but also stretching the field and gaining chunk plays.

  • He found the end zone often (6 times) in only 7 games — strong touchdown frequency.

  • Game-by-game glimpses:

    • Week 1: 3 catches for 30 yards, no TD. NFL.com

    • Week 2: 5 catches for 68 yards and 1 TD. NFL.com+1

    • Week 3: 5 catches for 68 yards and 1 TD. NFL.com+1

    • Week 4: 8 catches for 134 yards and 2 TDs. NFL.com+1

    • Week 5: 2 catches for 57 yards and 1 TD. NFL.com

    • Week 6: 9 catches for 168 yards and 1 TD. ESPN.com+1

    • Week 7: 4 catches for 82 yards, but 0 TDs. NFL.com

🧠 What This Means

  • Chemistry fast: Pickens appears to have quickly built rapport with quarterback Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense, enabling his strong start.

  • Explosive ability: The yardage per catch and long 45-yard receptions show his deep-threat capability is being utilized.

  • Consistency: Aside from his Week 1 modest start, he’s been producing solid yardage and touchdowns regularly.

  • Green light: The Cowboys seem comfortable putting the ball in his hands in big moments, which is a good sign for his role moving forward.

⚠️ Things to Watch / Limitations

  • The team context matters: targets, opposing defenses, game flow all influence his numbers.

  • Sustainability: Can he keep up this pace over a full season? A hot start is great, but maintaining it is tougher.

  • Competition for targets: The Cowboys have other strong pass-catchers, so share of the ball is always a factor.

📌 Summary

In short: George Pickens has had an impressive launch with the Cowboys. In his first 7 games, he racked up 36 catches, 607 yards and 6 touchdowns — demonstrating big-play ability, reliability in scoring, and quick adaptation to a new team and offense. He’s quickly become a key weapon for Dallas.

Now for Dak Prescott, who is having another MVP campaign and looks the best he's been his entire career. Now the ten year vet has had years similar to this, but for the first time in a while, he's doing it by sharing the ball around. Besides Lamb and Pickens's, Prescott has been able to involve Ferguson and Turpin in the passing game as well. These past couple of weeks have shown the emergence of Ryan Flouronoy. The implementation of Pickens has caused Prescott to be more agressive downfield, especially on go routes. Throughout 7 games with Pickens, Prescott has connected with Pickens on go balls 65% of the time- should be noted this statistic includes pass interference calls on Pickens. Prescott has always preached about aggressiveness without turnovers, something he struggled with in 2022 and 2024. But now in 2025, it seems like Pickens has been helping Dak about the same as Dak has helped George Pickens.

I'm excited to see what other magic George Pickens has for Dallas fans, and I say this probably for every Cowboy fan in the world, resign him Jerry!
