The Cowboys freed up close to 50 million dollars by restructuring Prescott and Smith's contracts respectively. All signs look for a restructuring of Lamb's contract as well, though it hasn't happened just yet.

A necessary move to free up space for future deals with upcoming free agents or to satisfy the needs of George Pickens, currently seeking a new deal. My honest opinion of what to do with Pickens is simple, pay him now and get in front of it. In 2019 and 2020, the Cowboys tagged Dak Prescott twice before giving him his 40 million dollar deal. Different circumstances as the Cowboys then wanted to future evaluate what Dak would be, but it is very clear that George Pickens makes an immediate impact for this team, especially as Jerry has made it clear he is willing to be aggressive the free agency and more proactive. A promise he's made before, but his actions this time are proving otherwise.

The Cowboys have a big free agency period coming up, a lot of pieces are in play and they have the right system and coach to implement it. But none of it will really matter unless all pieces of the puzzle fit together. Recent news suggests a push for star defensive end Maxx Crosby, but this would involve trading the two first round picks that they currently have. Maxx Crosby has been a dream player for many fans and a star edge rusher is exactly what they need. But the cost of Crosby is way too much, especially considering the fact that the Cowboys if they wanted could acquire a defensive end in the draft.

Prescott came out about a couple of days ago urging Pickens to bet on himself, something he did all those years ago that led to his big payday in 2021. A move that could be interpeted as Prescott just urging Pickens to make a move that might benefit him in the long run(seeming as those two had an insane connection this year, and it will most likely continue next year). Nice words of wisdom from QB1, but it would detriment the Cowboys in the long run, which could be something that I'm okay with, but as time has told us, the front office is not the best at managing the cap room of the Cowboys.

After all, the off-season hasn't ended yet so its hard to say that its been a rousing success, but its heading in a general good direction for Dallas, let's see how they keep it up.
