5 Takeaways for Cowboys Fans After the Loss to Chicago

The Cowboys walked into Soldier Field and left with a 31-14 defeat that felt like a step backward after last week’s momentum. Here are five things that stood out from a Dallas perspective.

1. The Secondary Is a Major Concern

Caleb Williams made our defensive backs look shaky all game. Whether it was busted coverages or simply getting beat deep, the Bears had receivers running open too often. Until this group tightens up — or we scheme more help — we’re going to keep giving up chunk plays.

2. Pass Rush Didn’t Show Up Enough

Dallas usually relies on consistent pressure to cover up weaknesses in the back end. But against Chicago, we couldn’t collapse the pocket quickly, and Williams had time to pick his spots. Without Micah Parsons playing at 100% and others stepping up, this unit loses its edge.

3. CeeDee’s Injury Changed the Offense

When CeeDee Lamb went down with the ankle injury, everything shifted. Prescott had to force throws to tight ends and secondary receivers, and the offense felt limited. Even if Lamb misses just a little time, the Cowboys need another reliable option outside.

4. Turnovers Were Backbreakers

Javonte Williams’ fumble in the first quarter killed early momentum. Then, Prescott’s fourth-quarter interceptions sealed it. Even if one of them bounced off of Pickens's hands, it still drove the stake deeper in this game for the Boyz. The Bears capitalized on every mistake, and we didn’t generate enough takeaways to even things out.

5. The Team Looked Flat Late

The 19-play, nearly 10-minute drive by Chicago in the third quarter was demoralizing. That’s supposed to be Dallas’ identity — grinding teams down. Instead, we looked gassed on defense and rushed on offense, like the game had already slipped away.

Bottom Line

As Cowboys fans, it’s frustrating: the talent is there, but the execution wasn’t. The defense is too good on paper to get carved up like this, and the offense can’t afford to be this dependent on CeeDee Lamb. The season is still young, but these are the kinds of losses that shine a spotlight on weaknesses — and how fast (or not) Dallas can fix them.
